Abstract

In this method, a primary band loop is formed by introducing a length of band into a circular guide (28). The free band end is guided in a circle on the inner circumference of the guide (28), until the free band end overlaps with part of the loop. Next, the primary band loop is retained and a guide (28) is pressed off vertically downwards. The loop (30) is then widened until it is large enough to span the package (24) to be tied. This is carried out by retaining the free band end while the band is fed out. The package (24) is then guided over the widened loop (30) and the loop (30) is laid round the package (24). The loop (30) can then be tautened and joined together by fusing the overlap region.
