Abstract
An improved welding termination control unit, for use with a resistance welding machine that includes interrupting means that control the application of a succession of cycles of alternating current to welding electrodes and having an internal timer, which, in the absence of a prior completion of the welding by the control unit, it causes the interrupting means to operate to cause the welding current to end after a predetermined number of cycles, the control unit comprising: voltage sensitive means between the electrodes at a first instant in relation to each cycle of the waveform of the welding current, to detect a predetermined drop in the resistance of the material between the electrodes and, when such detection takes place, to operate the interrupting means for stop the application of welding current to the electrodes; a suspicious weld indicator; and characterized by means responsive to the waveform of the supply current between the interrupting means and the electrodes at a second instant with respect to each cycle of the waveform, above with respect to the cycle at said first moment, to detect the termination of that supply waveform and to cause the suspicious weld indicator to act if the resistive-sensitive means have not yet operated, whereby the weld indicator, suspect is operated only when the completion of the weld is produced by the machine timer.
