Abstract

Tennis courts supported on foundations of bitumastic aggregate are sealed at a level below the top dressing by a fine mesh of synthetic or glass filaments impregnated with a vinyl-acrylic resin (I). Pref. crevices or cavities on the surface of the foundation are prefilled with a mortar made from cement, sand, water and resin (I) applied (sprayed) as a coating opt. also incorporating a reinforcing mesh. The top dressing is a sprayed coating of fine sand, pigment, water, resin and opt. powdered silica added in a quantity which controls the ultimate 'pace' of the court. Lines are defined by applying a similar mixt. contg. white pigment in place of the sand. The court surfaces remain relatively insensitive to minor cracking of the foundations.
