Abstract

In the process employing sodium hydroxide and oxygen, with two cooking stages and intermediate defibring, the second stage is replaced by a cooking operation in the presence of an alkaline solution of peroxide containing a stabiliser for the peroxide, at atmospheric pressure. This avoids both the contamination effects of the kraft process, while obtaining a pulp of comparable quality, and the costly plants required by the sodium hydroxide-oxygen process.
