Abstract
Un método mejorado de expandir tabaco que comprende las operaciones (1) impregnar el tabaco con dióxido de carbono liquido en condiciones tales que el dióxido de carbono se mantiene en forma liquida para impregnar el tabaco con el dióxido de carbono liquido, (2) someter el tabaco impregnado con dióxido de carbono liquido a condiciones tales que el dióxido de carbono liquido se convierte en dióxido de carbono sólido, y (3) someter después el tabaco que contiene dióxido de carbono sólido a condiciones en las que el dióxido de carbono sólido se vaporiza causando la expansión del tabaco, en donde la mejora comprende: (i) utilizar como tabaco que se emplea en la operación (1) un tabaco que tiene un contenido de VE inicial de alrededor de 17 alrededor de 30%, y (ii) efectuar la primera operación bajo presión en el intervalo de alrededor de 17,5 kg/cm2 absolutos a alrededor de 36,7 kg/cm2 absolutos.
