Abstract

A device for adjusting a movably mounted element (10), such as a motor vehicle rear view mirror, which includes a worm-gear spindle (14, 18) rotation of which by a drive motor (12) can cause a mating gear wheel (36) to be driven to cause pivoting of the element (10) via an adjusting element (32, 33) and a pivot link (42). A brake (37) is associated with the gear wheel (37). Upon motor adjustment of the element (10) the force of the brake (37) is not overcome and the gear wheel (37) does not rotate. Upon manual adjustment of the element (10) the brake force is overcome, and the gear wheel (37) can rotate and roll on the then non-rotating worm-gear spindle (18).
