Abstract
A process for the preparation of an ester of a monocarboxylic acid or a dicarboxylic acid with an aliphatic alcohol, which comprises reacting the amide of an aliphatic or aromatic monocarboxylic or dicarboxylic acid with a saturated or unsaturated monohydric or dihydric aliphatic alcohol and sulphuric acid and/or ammonium bisulphate, wherein per molar equivalent of amide, 0.6-1.2 acid equivalents of sulphuric acid or of ammonium bisulphate are employed, so that, in addition to the carboxylic acid ester, ammonium sulphate free from ammonium bisulphate is formed.
