Abstract
Se desarrolla un recubrimiento de conversión de fosfato de hierro de alta calidad, de peso moderado de recubrimiento, sobre superficies de metales férreos, por medio de una solución de fosfato ácido de sodio aplicada por pulverización, empleando un acelerante en combinaciónque comprende sulfato de hixoxilamina y un agente oxidante tal como un clorato o un bromato. En una realización específica, la combinación acelerante preferida es clorato de sodio y sulfato de hidroxilamina en una proporción de alrededor de 4 partes en peso de clorato de sodio a 1 parte en peso de sulfato de hidroxilamina. Los recubrimientos se forman por aplicación por pulverización de una solución de recubrimiento que tiene una concentración de fosfato ácido de sodio de alrededor de 4% en peso, y una concentración de acelerante total de clorato/hidroxilamina de alrededor de 0,4% en peso. La solución se aplica a una temperatura de baño entre 32ºC y 54ºC, en un tratamiento convencional de pulverización en cinco etapas empleando un limpiador alcalino y un lavado final con compuesto de cromo parcialmente reducido. Preferiblemente , el metal tratado se seca a una temperatura de alrededor de 121ºC a alrededor de 177ºC durante un período de alrededor de 5 a alrededor de 10 minutos. Los recubrimientos de conversión producidos a bajas temperaturas según esta invención tienen una resistencia a la niebla salina desusadamente buena. No pueden obtenerse recubrimientos de peso de recubrimientos equivalente y similar resistencia a la niebla salina usando cualquier tipo de acelerante sólo.
