Abstract

An apparatus for the extraction with a liquid by countercurrent motion of products which are part solid, for instance sucrose from sugar beets, comprises a rotary drum, a substantially helix shaped partition in said drum, and a raising element 14 in the space between each turn of said helix for lifting the solids from the liquid and dropping them over a transverse barrier 15 which, due to the rotation of the drum, stops and forces back the liquid into another turn of said helix, at least one of the raising elements having a curvature and possibly having projections such that, during the rotation of the drum, the solids are lifted from the liquid gradually and dropped in successive fractions over the barrier, without sliding on the raising element.
