Abstract
Un procedimiento para la reducción cíclica, por lote, de un óxido metálico a metal esponja por reacción con un gas reductor caliente, en un sistema de reactores de unidades múltiples, del tipo en el que se tratan simultáneamente lechos fijos de material portador de metal en una multiplicidad de reactores intercambiables, que incluyen por lo menos un reactor de enfriamiento y por lo menos un reactor de reducción, y se hace pasar un gas reductor frío a través de por lo menos un reactor de enfriamiento de dicho sistema, se le caliente y se le pasa después a través de por lo menos un reactor de reducción del sistema de modo que circule durante un ciclo de operación de duración predeterminada, para reducir el óxido metálico a metal esponjoso y, al final del ciclo de operación, los reactores se intercambian funcionalmente, caracterizado porque el ciclo se divide en dos periodos de tiempo sucesivo durante el primero de los cuales por lo menos una porción del gas reductor frío se pasa en serie a través de lechos de metal esponjoso en un primero y un segundo reactores de enfriamiento antes de ser calentado y pasado a través de un reactor de reducción del sistema y, durante dicho segundo periodo, el primer reactor de enfriamiento se desconecta del sistema para la descarga de metal esponjoso enfriado desde el mismo y la carga de mineral nuevo también al mismo y el gas reductor frío fluye directamente hacia el lecho de metal esponjoso en dicho segundo reactor de enfriamiento.
