Abstract
The measurement of smoke density from vehicle exhaust is performed as it passes through a venturi. Density is determined by reflecting light through the smoke across the venturi throttle. A smoke head contains venturi passage for the smoke around which a light source is located to direct light across smoke to be reflected at venturi throttle. A filter and fan ensure that clean air enters a chamber containing the smoke head. An air heater is mounted on this chamber to prevent condensation occurring on the light reflector.
