Abstract
The specification describes a process for fine-granular fractionation of ores and mineral substances which in the course of preparatory processing (by leaching, counterflow washing or the like) have to be separated from accompanying liquids and which may have to be reseparated from a washing liquid- should the ore need washing. The described process comprises the steps of first reducing the ore to a suitable maximum granule size (preferably not more than 7 to 10 mm) in an appropriate mill, ensuring that the humidity of the material coming from the mill does not exceed 15% and subjecting the material coming from the mill to fractionation in a disintegrator which operates such that energy is supplied to the ore, by means of intensive mechanical pounding, to produce a product having a restricted grain size distribution and only a small percentage of the finer granules. The specification also describes apparatus for putting into effect the method the apparatus comprising a tube mill 1, impact pulveriser, hammer mill or the like in which the ore or mineral is initially processed and a modified pin or cage type disintegrator 13 in which the fractionation of the ore or mineral substance takes place.
