Abstract

Bars or tubes, particularly copper tubes provided with a thermally insulating coating, are provided with packing. The tubes are formed into bundles, each bar or tube being previously enclosed by a strip having a longitudinal slot, the edges of the strip being secured to the surface of the bar or tube by means of an adhesive tape. The width of the strip is equal to phi.d-5mm, "d" being the diameter of the bar or tube. A copper tube (1) is of seamless construction and has a thermally insulating coating (2) of say PVC which encloses the tube and is applied thereto by extrusion. The packing (3) comprises a paper strip (3) enclosing partially the tube and has a length such that an adhesive tape (4) adheres to the edges of the paper strip as well as to the surface of the insulating coating (4). To provide the packing, the paper strip is unrolled from a coil and its form is progressively modified by rolls and so as to enclose the tube.
