Abstract
Un procedimiento para la oxidación catalítica de dióxido de azufre, en cuyo procedimiento una mezcla gaseosa que incluye dióxido de azufre y oxígeno y que se encuentra a una temperatura elevada, se hace pasar sucesivamente a través de cierto número de etapas catalíticas, para formar trióxido de azufre por reacción entre el dióxido de azufre y oxígeno; y la mezcla gaseosa se enfríe entre las etapas catalíticas, caracterizado porque se introduce en la mezcla gaseosa oxigeno comercialmente puro o aire enriquecido con oxigeno, y la mezcla gaseosa se enfría aguas abajo del catalizador en cada etapa mediante un medio de enfriamiento distinto del oxígeno comercialmente puro o aire enriquecido con oxígeno que se introducen a una temperatura de 0ºC o inferior en la mezcla gaseosa, y/o que se llevan a una temperatura de 0ºC o inferior en relación de intercambio de calor con la mezcla gaseosa y/o el citado medio de enfriamiento.
