Process for the regeneration of the spent catalyst from a fluidized catalytic cracking process in which the spent catalyst is brought into contact with an oxidizing regeneration gas in a regeneration zone at high pressures and temperatures to effect combustión of the material carbonaceous deposited on said spent catalyst, and hot regeneration gases and regenerated catalyst are produced, said hot regeneration gases and said regenerated catalyst being separated to provide a hot combustión gas, and in which said hot combustión gas is expanded through the turbine of an axial gas turbo-expander-compressor assembly, and the compressed gas containing oxygen from said compressor is used to constitute at least a part of said regeneration gas in said regeneration zone, the production flow rate being of combustión gas in said regeneration zone included between 50 and 100% approximately of the design capacity of said axial gas turbo-expander-compressor assembly, the method being characterized in that it includes the operations consisting of: a.
