Abstract

The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for inserting a weft thread into the shed of a weaving machine without the use of a shuttle. According to the invention, the thread to be inserted is offered to two throwing rollers (6 and 7) which define a nip between them. A guide member (4) is arranged in front of the rollers (6, 7), and a fixing member (3) is arranged in such a way that the thread (1, 5) forms an acute angle with the nip of the rollers between the said members and, before the throw, is located outside the nip. For throwing, a device makes it possible to displace the thread between the rollers (6, 7) which in turn form a loop from the thread length (1) drawn off from a reserve (2).
