CONSISTE EN UNA MATRIZ PREDOMINANTEMENTE DE GRAFITO QUE TIENE CAVIDADES (6) PARA ALOJAR ELEMENTOS COMBUSTIBLES QUEMADOS. LOS POZOS (6) Y LAS SUPERFICIES EXTERIORES DE LA CESTA (4) TIENEN REVESTIMIENTOS METALICOS (7), COMO ACERO AL BORO, ABSORBEDORES DE NEUTRONES. AL GRAFITO DE LA MATRIZ SE LE AÑADE CARBURO DE BORO COMO ABSORBEDOR DE NEUTRONES. LA MATRIZ SE PUEDE REALIZAR CON COMPONENTES PREFABRICADOS CONSISTENTES EN DISCOS DE GRAFITO, QUE ALTERNAN CON DISCOS METALICOS, NORMALMENTE DE FORMA DE CUBETA, UNIDOS ENTRE SI POR ANCLAS DE TRACCION Y ELEMENTOS DE FIJACION.
