EL OXIGENO LIQUIDO SE EXTRAE DEL FONDO DE LA TORRE DE BAJA, SE PONE A PRESION Y SE EVAPORA CONTRA UNA CORRIENTE DE GAS RICO EN NITROGENO QUE SE SACA DE LA TORRE DE ALTA Y SE COMPRIME. EL GAS COMPRIMIDO RICO EN NITROGENO, SE DIVIDE EN UNA SEGUNDA. LA PRIMERA SE ENFRIA CONTRA EL OXIGENO LIQUIDO QUE SE VAPORIZA Y SE EXPANDE LUEGO PARA PRODUCIR UN PRODUCTO LIQUIDO (SOBRE UNA MASA MOLAR) DEL QUE PARTE AL MENOS SE HACE RETORNAR A LA TORRE DE ALTA PRESION COMO REFLUJO. LA SEGUNDA CORRIENTE SE ENFRIA, SE EXPANDE Y AL MENOS UNA PARTE SE EMPLEA EN ENFRIAR LA PRIMERA SUBCORRIENTE Y SE DEVUELVE DESPUES AL COMPRESOR.
