Abstract

A conversion coating is formed on an aluminium surface by applying and drying onto the surface an aqueous composition having a pH of not more than 3.5 and containing fluoride, phosphate and zirconium and/or titanium and which is free of chromium, organic film-forming polymers and tannin.
