Abstract

In an underwater scraper conveyor (10), a control system controls the speed of a variable-speed drive (32) and hence the speed of a gear wheel (22) and, in turn, the speed of a drag chain (16) as a function of the torque at the main drive shaft (21). The pressure of the hydraulic fluid is determined by the pressure sensor (34) as a measured value for the torque at the main drive shaft. The speed of the variable-speed drive (32) is varied as a function of the measured torque up to an upper limiting value for the driving speed.
