Abstract

A fold-up chair solves the problem of the "wandering clothes" effect and a gentle downward movement by means of the fact that its backrest 1, when folded back to a rest position (broken line), is displaced with its lower edge in under the seat 2. This is achieved by the fact that the backrest 1 is coupled by means of an arm 16 to an eccentric disc 5 whose centre is mounted in the chair stand 3, and by the fact that a link arm 4 is connected rotatably to the backrest and the stand. One end of the link arm 4 is mounted at a point c at a distance from the lower edge of the backrest above the attachment for the arm 16. The other end of the link arm is rotatably mounted on a pivot d which is supported by the stand 3. The seat 2 can advantageously be mounted on the same pivot d, but it can also have a separate pivot 7. The gentle drop movement is achieved by the fact that a gas spring 6 known per se is supplemented by a helical spring 10 whose length is shorter than the stroke of the gas spring. By means of a displaceably mounted yoke 11, the position of activation of the helical spring can be changed to adapt to persons of different weight. <IMAGE>
