Abstract

A filter, in particular a microfilter, is cleaned by generating vibrations in the unfiltered liquid 14. On the surface of a relatively stiff filter element 11, or in its immediate vicinity, there is placed a cleansing layer 13 on the side facing the unfiltered liquid 14, which layer allows the unfiltered liquid to pass and which is set in motion during the filtering process, so that the liquid in the immediate vicinity of the filter element 11 is set in low-amplitude motion which has a filter-element-cleansing effect.
