Abstract

Unsaturated aldehydes are prepared by bringing a gaseous mixture of an acyclic alkane and O2 into contact with a solid catalyst consisting of antimony oxide, at increased temperature, in the presence of a halogen on the surface of the catalyst. The halogen is introduced by including a volatile halogen compound in the gaseous feed and/or by activating the catalyst with an inorganic halide. Catalytic activity is increased.
