Abstract
Method for continuous coating with sugar or lacquer using a coating agent and a specially designed coating apparatus. Enables coating (e.g of pills) to be carried out in a continuous manner instead of in several batch processes as done generally at present. A coating vessel is used consisting of a revolving inner shell, fitted with a specially designed baffle to break up the stream of tablets. The coating soln., consisting of an aq. medium contng. sugar, polyethylene glycol, polyvinylpyrrolidone and opt. contng. talc, titanium dioxide, colloidal silica, gum arabic, a trihydroxy alcohol as moisture retaining agent is fed in through a specially designed feed pipe, and hot air is fed into the section of the vessel where the bulk of the material passes, and is withdrawn via an air-outlet pipe situated at the top of the vessel. The vessel is fitted with a lid. The process is carried out continuously, feeding in the sugar soln. and drying simultaneously by means of the hot air. The product is finally removed and given a final drying process to give a hard coating.
