Abstract

Cooled exist window for intense beams of high energy atomic particles. F6c. Consists of a thin metallic foil (typically A1. 25 microns thick) impermeable to the outside atmosphere, supported by a rigid frame, preferably of copper, clamped to the opening of a vacuum chamber in which the rays are generated, and possibly deflected. A cooling tube passes through the frame across the opening supporting the foil against ambient pressure and absorbing the induced by the passage of the particles through the foil. A cross member designed to have minimum cross section to the bean further supports the foil and tube. The tube may be of oral cross section to reduce obsuration of the rays. A typical window transmits 80% of a 30 mA 300 KeV swept beam.
