Abstract

Groups of articles such as tiles or bricks are stacked on a pallet comprising rails which can be separated from the stack, and on the sides of the pallet retaining bars which can be raised and lowered vertically and which, while an envelope of plastics sheet material is placed in position are raised to hold the articles in position while the rails are temporarily separated, being afterwards lowered when the rails return to grip the package. The rails may be separated by a lever (9) acting against an energy storage device (12) which afterwards returns the rails to their original position. The pallet may be passed into a heating chamber so as to shrink the sheet around the articles.
