Abstract

A cosmetic product is prepared by (a) esterifying proteins esp. gelatine with epoxide pref. propylene oxide (b) removing the excess exposide pref. under vacuum and adjusting the pH to 1.5-4.5 pref. 2.5-4 (c) adjusting the concentration to about 15% solids (d) adding with stirring 10-20 vols. of ethanol of pH 2-5 pref. 4 of at least 80 degrees strength. The soln. on evaporation from the hair or skin forms a clear, tin film. The esterified protein is readily soluble in ethanol. The product is used in hair lacquers, hair waving waving lotions, after shave lotions, shaving creams and protective creams.
