Abstract

A refrigerator or pump unit comprising four pistons radially reciprocating at right angles in a revolving support cylinder within an elliptical crank case. Work fluid is admitted via an orifice in a divided central axial tube to each cylinder pot in rotation. The orifice is closed and the fluid expanded and cooled by the piston following the contour of the ellipse. Exchange takes place across the pot walls to a narrow annulus carrying refrigerant fluid. The work fluid is warmed by exchange and subsequently compressed to ambient pressure prior to release to a separate divison in the central axial tube.
