Abstract

Olefins can be linear or cyclic. The oxidation uses molecular O2, and is carried out in aqueous soln. containing 90-99% N-alkyl lactam (these are 5 or 6-membered rings, esp. N-methyl pyroolidone) and Pd or Cu salts and Cl-ions. Reaction is at 20-100 degrees C, and pH 3-6.
