Abstract
A feed gas containing an alkane in the vapour phase at a partial pressure of >=0.20 atm. is led over a suitable catalyst at elevated temperature. The preferred alkane pressure is pref. min. 0.70 atm. and the alkane constitutes preferably more than 70% of the feed gas which also contains air or O2 when alkane-concentration is high. The catalytic oxidation process may oxidise a propane alkane to an aldehyde such as propane or isobutane to acrolein or methacrolein and includes oxidative dehydrogenation such as from propane to propylene, n-butane to butene and/or butadiene, isopentane to isopentene and/or isoprene.
