Abstract

A preform of the superalloy article of complex profile is made having a greater section and shorter length than the finished article. The preform is compressed to a given cohesion (pref. >=50% theoretical density) and placed in a deformable envelope having a greater volume than that of the preform. The space between the envelope and preform is filled with powder and the whole subjected to elevated pressure and temp. during extrusion such that the preform and surrounding powder harden simultaneously, and are elongated to form the desired profile, e.g. an H-section or channel.
