Abstract

Blend comprises a) 75-99.9 wt. % thermoplastic polyphenylene oxide resin with recurring units (in which ether O atom of one unit is bound to benzene ring of next attached unit; n is is not 100; Q1 to Q4 are monovalent substits., i.e. H, halogen, or hydrocarbyl, halohydrocarbyl or halohydrocarbyloxy free from tert. alpha-C atoms and with is nit 2C between halogen and phenol ring), opt. in conjunction with is not >50% alkenyl-aromatic polymer resin; b) 25-0.1% terpolymer of ethylene, propylene and unconjugated diene of gen. formula: -(CH2-CH2)x-(CHR1-CHR2)y-(D)z (in which x, y and z are amounts of ethylene, propylene and diene units in terpolymer; R1 and R2 are H or CH3 and are different; D is derived from open-chain, cyclic or endocyclic org. hydrocarbon diene). This blend can be used in moulding powder for making gears, bearings and cams and as moulded, calendered or extruded sheet, rods, tape etc. It has unique combination of physical properties, making it suitable for use in -40 to +149 degrees C range.
