Abstract

Removal of films of scum or oil from the surface of water, e.g. lakes is performed by introducing scrapers drive in closed circuit, into the water from above so that as they continue their motion they carry part of the surface layer back into a channel or trough by which the surface liquid is removed. The scrapers only penetrate the surface to a depth corresponding to the thickness of the oil or scum layer.
