Abstract
Atmospheric control utilising an electrolytic carbon dioxide concentrator. Comprising a system fro the regeneration of oxygen from carbon dioxide in either a closed regenerative life support system or a non-regnerative life support system, the invention utilises an electrolytic concentration cell for the removal and concentration of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Its most specific application is to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the air for respiratory purposes. A hydrogen depolarised concentration cell with a carbonate electrolyte is used to convert the carbon dioxide into carbonate is ions which are then reacted with hydrogen to form carbon dioxide and water. Gas with a lower content of carbon dioxide is then recovered from the vicinity of the cathode of the concentration cell.
