Abstract

Impregnated sponges - filled as continuous slabs by multi-needled rollers injecting-detergents etc. Rows of syringe needles on rollers to inject fluids or pasts into a layer of (synthetic sponge). The rollers may act as calendering or drive roll nips for the sponge. The ranks of needles may differ in length. Pref. the needles are mounted on a rotary sleeve over a stationary hollow core fed with the feed fluid under pressure and having a slot facing the passing foam surface. Heated needles may be used to inject into and reseal a film-wrapped sponge. Offers higher throughput rates than prior art reciprocating injection units. Impregnation may be coupled with compression of the sponge layer if desired.
