Abstract
1303417 Speech recognition SOC LANNIONNAISE D'ELECTRONIQUE 19 April 1971 [30 Jan 1970] 20796/71 Heading G4R [Also in Division H3] A speech analyser employs a set of digital filters to analyse the phonemes in a spoken word. Each data word representative of a portion of the spoken word is applied to selected ones of the filters, the parameters of these selected filters being set so that the filters have a transfer function suitable for the analysis of a particular phoneme. The filters selected, and the parameters, are changed cyclically so that the filters are suitable for the analysis of n phonemes in turn. The parameters are selected according to the speech characteristics of the speaker. The speech waveform is sampled, the samples passing to an analogdigital converter which provides digital signals representing the frequency variation of the successive samples. The signals pass to a store having a capacity equivalent to the duration of about one phoneme. The signals pass from the store to selected digital filters via a switching circuit. In the case of a language having 36 phonemes the switching circuit selects in turn 36 different combinations of filters selected from a group of 16 filters-as described the filters are Lerner filters. In synchronism with the switching of the filters the parameters of the filters are altered under the control of a store containing the parameters required to set the selected filters, for each position of the switch, to present a transfer function suitable for the analysis of a corresponding one of the phonemes. The filters provide digital signals indicative of the phonemes. To accommodate different speakers the contents of the parameter store may be replaced by parameters pertinent to the particular speaker.
