A non-adherent coal is ground and briquetted at 20-350 degrees C (i.e. below plasticising temp.); sintered at 450-600 degrees C under the vapours formed by thermal decomposition of the coal (pref. at 1-20 atmospheres); and finally coked at 750-950 degrees C.
