Abstract

Moulds with clamps which may be used in a press to shape and consolidate a fibre reinforced resin, clamped and removed to cure the moulding under pressure. Pref. moulds are lined with partially impregnated glass fibre matting, charged with the remainder of the resin, prepssed, clamped and conveyed away (through ovens) to complete the cure before recycling. Esp. for forming automobile panels, boat hulls, using slow-curing, low shrinkage composns. Offers efficient utilisation of a press for a fraction of the (prolonged) moulding cycle. Combines the advantages of pre-impregnating the matting with resin to maintain its distribution with the speed of charging most (90%) of the resin direct to the mould in bulk.
