Abstract

Fluidified and etherified starches with a D.S. >0.10 and viscosity less than that of the original starch pdts. are obtd. by fluidifying a starch ether of high D.S. using a thermal treatment in the presence of an acid in aqs. medium. The pH is esp. used in the textile industry as a binder for fibres. Also used in paper industry, paint compsns., protective colloids. The modified starches do not decompose easily and swell in cold water. They form translucent, firm and water-soluble films.
