The compsn. contains 15-30 wt.% calcium aluminate cement and the balance a fused silica particle mixture comprising a sufficient quantity of flat platelike particle and rod like particles to form a "bridge" type reinforced structure 40-80 wt.% of the fused silica particles are -4 to +12 mesh size, 0-30 wt.% and -12 to +32 mesh, and 20-60 wt.% are -32 to +200 mesh. Forming tools or dies cast from this compsn. withstand temps. 1850 degrees F.
