Abstract
Low C steel (sheet) with excellent cold-working properties is produced by adjusting proportions of Mn, O and S in a low C-steel containing 0.25% Mn so as to satisfy the relation O = (Mn%) - Mn atomic weight x/O atomic weight (O%) - Mn atomic weight/S atomic weight x (S%) =0.15; The steel is hot-rolled and the sheet is coiled at 600-800 degrees C; then cold-rolled and subsequently subjected to a continuous recrystallisation, annealing and overaging treatment. Pref. cold-rolled steel sheet is continuously led through a heating section where it is heated to 700-900 degrees C in 2 min., a heating section where it is kept at indicated temp. range for 2 min., a first cooling section where it is quickly cooled at 5-30 degrees C/sec. to an overaging temp., an overaging section where it is kept 8, esp., 5 min. at 300-450 degrees C (300-400 degrees C) and a second cooling section where it is cooled to 50 degrees C in 2 min.
