Abstract

Cationic emulsions are prepd. by forming an emulsion in which water is the dispersed phase using a cationic emulsifier; and effecting phase inversion by progressive additions of water. Esp. useful for preparing cationic emulsions of bitumen or a petroleum resin, for spreading on gravel during the construction of roads. The emulsions have a good storage stability, but set rapidly after application to the gravel so that satisfactory bonding is obtained.
