Abstract
A poly(4-12C-alkyleneterephthalate) is prepd. by reesterification of a low-alkylterephthalate (e.g. DMTP) and a 4-12C-alkyleneglycol (e.g. 1,4-butanediol) to give a prepolymer which is subsequently polycondensed. Re-esterification is effected in presence of a catalyst MxTiF6 where M is NH4 or an alkali(ne earth) metal; and x = 2 when M is monovalent, but = 1 when M is divalent. Diammoniumhexafluorotitan ate is suitable. Claimed catalyst affords short "half-life" with minimal side reactions.
