Abstract

A rubber shoe in the form of a fin or 'flipper' is reinforced with an element of high elasticity and low hysteresis along the lateral edges, the element consisting of polyester resin reinforced with glass fibres, possessing a specific gravity not much greater than that of the rubber and being resistant to environmental agents. The polyester/glass fibre reinforcement pref. has an s.g. of 1.4 - 1.7, a plane section where the sole of the foot rests and prolonged edge sections along the sides. The thickness of the sheet is pref. 0.5 - 4.0 mm. and it is either bounded to or moulded into the rubber of the lower face of the fin. The term rubber may include synthetic materials such as PVC.
