Abstract

Vertical cylindrical shell is divided radially by vertical partitions into a number of flash chambers, the lower part of each partition having an opening so that saline water, or other liq, can flow consecutively through the chambers. Saline water feed and unevaporated saline water discharge connection are provided on the shell and a condenser is arranged coaxially in the shell with a peripheral clearance forming an evaporation chamber. A jacket envelopes the condenser with openings to allow passage of steam, distillate, and non-condensable gases. Thus the distillation unit fully uses the heat of vapourisation.
