Abstract

A loom has a rotary cam over which the warp advances such that rotation of the cam opens and closes the shed, and predetermined lengths of weft yarn are fed by e.g. being blown out of a stationary nozzle onto a circular storage surface associated with the cam and from which they are picked by a shuttle. Pref. two storage surfaces are provided in the form of frusto-conical extensions on the ends of the rotary cam and pref. the weft yarns are retained in grooves on the frusto-conical extensions by grippers. The outer surfaces of the nozzles may be conical and may have grooves which retain the lengths of weft yarn in the grooves of the extension. Picking of the weft is speeded up, allowing an loom to operate at higher speeds.
