Abstract

The installation for filling the hollow portion of a communications cable with vaseline, the cable is passed through a guide sleeve (10) with a heated portion (3) at the feed end and a coded portion at the delivery end, with a pair of chambers (1, 2) between, into which the sealing medium is pumped by two pumps (8) immersed in a tank (7) below, which extends the length of the whole installation. Two valves (9) over the chambers return excess medium to the tank, and a pressure equalising chamber (6) located in the heated section and another in the coded section, also return excess medium to the tank. The two chambers (1, 2) from which the medium is forced into the travelling cable, and from which excess air is released, have baffles welded inside to give a swirling action to the medium.
