Abstract

An X-ray generator has a rotating anode tube and a focal point which can produce a rectangular cross-section beam. The tube, as shown in figure 1, has a truncated annular anode (2). It also has a cathode (4,5) comprising a helicoidal filament (4) and a concentrating part (5). The filament (4) and the concentrator (5) are located to produce a circular arc beam (20). The beam (20) passes through a glass envelope (1). A radiation collimator is used to produce a non-divergent parallel beam. It has parallel field diaphragms (6,7) with rectangular slots (60,70). It also has strips (8) between the two diaphragms (6,7). The diaphragms (6,7) are made of lead. Such an assembly is known as "Soller slots".
