Procédé et appareil pour serrer un assemblage à vis sous une force axiale déterminée Fp , en supposant que la constante d'élasticité k = F/ phiv de l'assemblage est connue, caractérisés en ce que la rigidité de l'assemblage ou le gradient couple/rotation dM/d phiv est calculé pendant le serrage, et que le couple cesse d'agir sur l'assemblage lorsqu'il atteint une valeur Ms qui, en fonction de la constante d'élasticité ou du rapport force axiale/rotation F/ phiv et de la rigidité calculée du joint dM/d phiv correspond à la force axiale Fp précitée.
