Abstract

A porous element is soaked with the soln. and exposed to a current of air which becomes charged with vapour to be directed on to the items to be disinfected. The disinfecting vapour is neutralised by a current of vapour from a neutralising soln. and the items and appts. then pref. freshened with sterile air. The disinfecting vapour is picked up by air passing through a porous element housed in a closed chamber contg. the antiseptic soln.. Provision is made for continuous automatic monitoring of the composition of the antiseptic soln., in partic. A humidity detector in the chamber. The detector pref. actuates a warning signal when the water content of the soln. exceeds a set limit. By controlling the water content of the soln., it is possible to prevent condensate droplets accumulating in the appts. and pipework, with subsequent danger and/or discomfort to users of disinfected items, even after neutralisation and freshening. Powdery deposits in valves, etc. are also obviated.
